Numerical analysis of bubbly flow around a circular cylinder

  • 1. Tokyo Univ. (Japan)

Description

A numerical method of bubbly flow around a circular cylinder using a boundary fitted generalized curvilinear coordinate system is developed. This method is based on the finite-difference solution of bubbly flow equations which are formulated with emphasis on the relative translational motion to liquid phase. That is, an equation of the translational motion of a single bubble is treated directly. Forces due to the added mass, drag, lift, and acceleration of the surrounding liquid are used to express the motion of bubbles. A motion of a group of bubbles is treated in an Eulerian way, using an equation of the conservation of a bubble number density. In present, Reynolds number and mean void fraction are used for the analysis. (author)
