Radiotracer technique in adsorption study : iodide ions on stannic oxide powder (Paper No. RE-04)

  • 1. Banaras Hindu Univ., Varanasi (India). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

Adsorption of iodide ions on stannic oxide powder was studied with special reference to the effect of time of contact, adsorptive concentration (10-7-10-3M) and temperature (303 -323 K) using 'radiotracer' technique. Adsorption is found to increase with increasing both concentration and temperature of adsorptive. The kinetics of process follows the first order rate law and obeys the 'freundlich isotherm'. The process is found to be endothermic in nature. A pre-exposition of the oxide adsorbent with a mixed flux of neutrons and γ-rays up to a certain period reduces its adsorption capacity.
