A prototype pulsed neutron facility for testing and calibration of neutron monitor

  • 1. Radiation Safety Systems Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

BARC is the designated institute for ionizing radiation along with the national metrology Institute, NPL New Delhi. These type of system with stronger part of its functionality test especially for neutron rem sources can be used for the active interrogation counters. The calibration consists of the study of studies performance of the instruments in linearity of response with dose, energy response, angular response, gamma response. The response time is also to be tested. Radiation Standards Section, BARC has established all the facilities for testing linearity, energy response and angular response. Different neutron sources like Am-Be, Am-B, Am-F, Am-Li, 252Cf and D2O moderated 252Cf are used for testing and calibrating neutron monitors. A pulsed neutron facility has been designed and established for response time) measurement and for the calibration of neutron monitors used for pulsed neutron beam
