Description

The first nonavertex closo-metalloborane Bu4N[(C5H5)3NiB6H6] was obtained by reaction of Bu-4NB6H7 with nickelocene and sodium amalgam. The compounds was investigated using 11B, 1H NMR, IR-spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The compound has monoclinic crystal system, sp.gr. C2/m, lattice parameters: a=24,602 (6), b=10,767 (3), c=15,162 (6) A; β=98,71 (3) deg, V=3939,8 (2) A3, d=1,15 g/cm3. The compound studied has 22 (2n=4) copre-shell electrons that is why it is surprising that realization of closo-geometry rather than nido one takes place. Possible reasons of the fact are discussed
