Magnetic ordering in PdGd: electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility

Description

The temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity, rho(T), and the low field magnetic susceptibility, chi(T), were measured for PdGd containing up to 5 at. percent Gd. For alloys containing 2, 3, and 5 at. percent Gd, rho(T) shows a sharp reduction in the spin disorder scattering at the ferromagnetic Curie temperature T/sub c/, obtained from chi(T). Previous electrical resistivity measurements failed to exhibit the effect of magnetic ordering because the high field estimates of T/sub c/ used were significantly larger than the values found. Resistivity data yield estimates of the conduction electron-local moment exchange interaction to be approximately 0.003 eV
