Effect of sulfides morphology on embrittlement and red-shorthness of cast steels

Description
Method of simulating real processes of steel deoxidation was used to study the mechanism of its embrittlement and the reasons of nonsatisfactory deformability of ingots under rolling of forging. Two types of steel embrittlement - grain - boundary and intragran - were established. They are dictated by its chemical composition and the way of deoxidation and, as a consequence, by morphology of sulfide inclusions. Quantitative characterization of high-temperature steel ductility was conducted by the method of sign-variable torsion of specimens from test heats with different versions of steel deoxidation, determining the different morphology of sulfide inclusions
