The clinical evaluation of bone scanning of sup(99m)Tc-HMDP (hydroxymethylene diphosphonate)

  • 1. Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatric Medical Center (Japan)

Description

Use of a new skeletal imaging agent, sup(99m)Tc-hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HMDP), to 41 patients of old age gave the following results. 1) sup(99m)Tc-HMDP had no side effects. 2) It had the blood clearance rate similar to that of sup(99m)Tc-MDP. 3) The urine excretion rate ranged (22% - 84.1%), which seemed to be due to their age and declined renal function. 4) Skeletal images were graded excellent, good, fair, or poor, and most of them were graded excellent. 5) No significant differences were noted between the images of sup(99m)Tc-HMDP and those of sup(99m)Tc-HMDP.
