Description
The present status of quark mixing and CP violation in the standard six quark model is reviewed in view of the recent experimental (b→u transition, B0-anti B0 mixing, ε'/ε) and theoretical (progress in the calculation of the hadronic matrix elements) developments. Implications of the data on B0-anti B0 mixing, ε and ε'/ε for the value of the top quark mass (mt) are discussed in detail. It is pointed out that mt should not be too large for the standard model to be able to fit the recent NA31 data for ε'/ε. An upper bound for mt is found as a function of various non-perturbative parameters. Typically mt<90 GeV is required. Implications of the B0*B9*0 mixing for ε'/ε are also discussed. (orig.)
