An evaluation of Linde 80 submerged-arc weld metal Charpy data irradiated in the HSST program
Description
This report describes an evaluation of Charpy test data from high-copper, low Charpy upper-shelf energy, Linde 80 submerged-arc weld metals for irradiation and testing as a part of the second and third irradiation series of heavy section steel technology (HSST) program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for a timely study of the effects of neutron radiation. The HSST data was evaluated to provide a large data base from which to evaluate the effects of neutron radiation on the Charpy impact test results. The specimens were irradiated over a range of temperatures and fluence values. These specimens were grouped by the irradiation temperature and fluence so as to minimize the standard deviation value for both properties. The upper-shelf energy, the 30-ft-lb (40.7-J) transition temperature, and the 50-ft-lb(67.8-J) transition temperature were reevaluated. These Charpy transition temperature and upper-shelf energy values are significantly different from the comparable values previously reported by the HSST program. The upper-shelf energy values and 30-ft-lb (40.7-J) transition temperatures for each data subset are summarized
