Electroproduction of Δ's from light nuclei
Description
The (e,e') study can examine the dependence of Δ-nucleus dynamics on the nuclear density and on the Δ momentum. The electromagnetic current owing to the Δ excitation can be straightforwardly calculated in this approach by adding a γN in equilibrium Δ vertex interaction to the meson-exchange Hamiltonian. In 1985, the authors had carried out a calculation of (e,e'Δ) from light nuclei. The important Δ-nucleus interaction in the final state was treated by using an optical potential extracted from the Δ-hole model of pion-nucleus scattering. Their calculation illustrated the strong dependence of the (e,e') cross section on the Δ-nucleus potential. The result was used in a proposal by the Argonne group as a part of the scientific justification of an experiment to be run at SLAC on Δ-production by GeV electrons
