Description

A model for the spatial structure of a nonthermal electron beam that produces type II solar radio bursts is presented based on the physics of strong Langmuir turbulence. The model assumes that the beam-generated waves reach the threshold for nonlinear instability over a narrow spatial region. The wave and particle distributions are computed as functions of velocity and distance ahead of the front using quasi-linear theory in a frame that moves with the front. 46 references
