Description

In this study, a detail evaluation is made of the new sector-field ICP-MS (Element XR) on its analytical potential for ultra-trace determination of 241Am. In order to enhance the sensitivity for 241Am analysis, a high efficiency sample introduction system (Aridus II) was combined with the Element XR. Analytical parameters, such as the RF power of SF-ICP-MS, flow rates of Ar sweep gas and N2 gas of the Aridus system were carefully optimized. A detection limit at attogram (10-18 g) level was obtained, which is comparable or even better than that of AMS, indicating a significant advance of ICP-MS for ultra-trace 241Am measurements.
