How reliable are neutrino mass limits derived from SN1987A?

Description
We examine in detail the model-independent limits on the electron-neutrino mass which follow from a dispersion analysis of the 2-sec neutrino pulse from SN1987A detected by Kamiokande II (KII). When experimental realities are taken into account, we conclude that no reliable constraint better than the current laboratory limits (i.e., better than order 20 eV) can be obtained. In fact, when all 11 events in the 12.4-sec KII pulse and the 8 IMB events are considered, a 20-eV or so neutrino mass might actually diminish the inferred duration of the burst at the source
