Description

At present IGR is the only reactor complex in the world where the conducting of representative researches on power reactors safety is possible. This work is performed by the experts of All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics, Russia Scientific Center 'Kurchatov Institute', NIKIET and National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan. They demonstrated that it was expedient to create in Russia a new uranium-graphite reactor MIGR with hodoscope for which IGR would be a reactor-prototype. These objectives - conducting of the researches on safety of power reactors at IGR and creation of a new reactor MIGR with limiting characteristics equipped with hodoscope and meeting the present-day safety requirements - require careful study of IGR physical particularities. At that, the matter concerns not some separate physical characteristics of the reactor or any peculiarity of its exploitation mode but it concerns their complex accounting all the interrelations. Purposeful researches of IGR physical characteristics were conducted twice. The main scope of researches was accomplished in 1968 and specification of characteristics was performed in 25 years in 1992. Further researches of IGR physical characteristics peculiarities have been started in 1994. In the article the outcomes of these research activities are briefly viewed. (author)
