Optical and scintillation characteristics study of the CsI crystal doped with bromine using Bridgman technique

  • 1. Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil)

Description

This paper describes a methodology to grow Cesium Iodide crystal (CsI), doped with Cesium Bromide (CsBr), using the Bridgman technique. To evaluate the crystal obtained [CsI(Br)], systematic measurements of optical transmittance and luminescence emission spectrum by gamma radiation were carried out. Transmittance measurements of the pure CsI crystal were accomplished to compare with those of the CsI(Br). The luminescence emission spectra of both crystals, pure CsI and CsI doped with Tl [CsI(Tl)], were also compared. The studies of the optical properties and the luminescence characteristics of the CsI(Br) crystal give fundamental information to the radiation detector development. (author)
