Neutron yield from massive lead target under action of light relativistic ions

Description

The neutron yield with the energy of ≤15 MeV from the lead cylinders 10-20-4-72 cm in size, bombarded by the 364He, 12C protons, deuterons and nuclei with energy of 1-7.3 GeV per ion charge unit, is measured through the delay method. Th neutron yield per unit of the initial ion charge for the target 20x60 cm is well-approximated by the functions of the Y/Zi=1i+bi (Ei/Zi)0.75 -type, where Ei is the ion initial kinetic energy. The neutron yield from the target 10x60 cm in size is proportional to Ep0.7. Average multiplicity of neutrons with the energy ≤15 MeV, emitted by the nuclei of lead and about 10 other elements from iron to uranium during the proton (1 and 2 GeV) and deuteron (1.48 and 7.3 GeV) absorption in the thin targets, is measured. 27 refs., 3 figs., 4 tabs
