Description
The paper introduces the phases present in the Si-Al-O-N and M-So-Al-O-N systems where M stands for any metallic element such as Y, Mg, etc. and methods to express their compositions from their behavior diagrams. A short review of their preparation conditions in single and mixed phases form is also presented. Some of the major industrial applications of the Sialons are also included in the present work for high lighting their technical importance. (author)
