Physical processes determining the stellar chromospheres structure

Observational data and some correlations between chromospheric and other atmospheric parameters are presented. Construction of models of the Solar and stellar chromospheres is described. These theoretical models were based on the energy balance between radiative losses and the amount of dissipated mechanical energy. Some problems of inhomogeneity of theoretical models as well as evolutionary effects are also discussed. (author)
