Dependence of mechanical properties for low alloy molybdenum alloy wires on surface treatment quality

Creators

Description

The dependence of mechanical properties of 0.2...1.0 mm diameter low alloy molybdenum wires under the static tension on the size of microdefects appeared on the surface due to various treatment was investigated. It was found that the improving of surface quality provided 10...22% increasing of σe and σ0.2 as well as σb and φ when the ratio of surface defects size to the wire diameter achieved (6...8)x10-3. The further quality improving did not lead to a noticable change of properties. With initial wire strength level increasing the influence of surface quality on wire properties increases. The main reason for the effects found is the faster reduction of distorsions and heterogeneity of the dislocation structure evolution on the surface in comparison with the bulk processes
