Computer solution of the Schroedinger equation - two useful programs
Description
The numerical solution of the Schroedinger equation for different forms of the potential energy has recently become of interest to teachers because of the ready availability of small computers and pocket calculators. A general purpose algorithm is described here which enables one to calculate the allowed energy eigenvalues for an arbitrary potential. To illustrate the method, results of a calculation where a centrifugal potential is added to the hydrogenic Coulomb potential are discussed, leading to an unusual method of finding the quantisation rules for angular momentum.
