Description

Gear modification is the key technology to design and manufacture gears with high power density, low vibration and low noise. The tooth profile modification can not only compensate the base pitch error, but also can improve the load distribution and reduce the meshing stiffness and meshing impact to achieve the purpose of reducing vibration and noise. Therefore, a method of optimization of tooth profile modification based on dynamic characteristics of helical gear pair is proposed. Firstly, the tooth profile equation of modified rack cutter is given. According to the gear machining process, the parabolic equation on the cutting edge of rack cutter is finally transformed into the surface of pinion. Secondly, tooth contact analysis (TCA), loaded tooth contact analysis (LTCA) and dynamic model of helical gear pair are provided. By TCA and LTCA, dynamic model is solved and dynamic responses are obtained. Finally, the least root-mean-square value of vibration acceleration is taken as the optimization objective; the optimum modification parameter of rack cutter can be obtained. An example is provided to demonstrate the implementation of proposed optimization method. The proposed method establishes the bridge between gear modification, TCA, LTCA and dynamic analysis of helical gear pair.
