Effect of gamma irradiation on erythrocyte purine nucleoside phosphorylase activity and erythrocyte membrane lipid peroxidation in vitro and in vivo

Description
The effect of ionizing irradiation on erythrocyte purine nucleoside phosphorylase and erythrocyte membrane lipid peroxidation have been comparatively studied in vitro and in vivo. After irradiation of the heparinized rat blood with 0,10,50, and 100 Gy and during the different days following the whole-body exposure to 8.5 Gy, PNP activities decreased whereas erythrocyte membrane lipid peroxidation increased. These results are seemly shown the relationship existing between erythrocyte PNP activity and membrane lipid peroxidation
