Photoemission study and magnetization of Gd3Pd intermetallic compound

Description
High resolution XPS measurements of the Gd3Pd valence band and core level states reveal formation of a narrow Pd 4d band. The Pd M45N45N45 Auger spectrum of Gd3Pd exhibits narrow, quasiatomic spectral features in comparison with the bandlike character observed for pure Pd. The effective Coulomb interaction Ueff between two 4d holes on the same atomic site was determined. The complex character of the valence band influences the magnetic properties of the compound.
