Description
High temperature reactions with mixtures of H2/H in presence of a highfrequency plasma torch lead to the new compounds (A): EuBeEu2O5 and (B): CaBePr2O5. Single crystal X-ray investigations show a monoclinic symmetry for (A): space group C2h5-P21/c (a = 7.1749; b = 6.5061; c = 9.4708 A; β = 90.370, Z = 4) and orthorhombic symmetry for (B): space group D2h16-Pnma (a = 9.5149; b = 7.1962; c = 6.544 A; Z = 4). In (A) the metal positions are occupied by Eu2+ and Eu3+ in an ordered way. In contrast to that in (B) a statistical distribution of Ca2+ and Pr3+ in the trigonal prisms of the Kagome network was found. (author)
