Swelling in neutron irradiated nickel-base alloys
Description
Inconel 625, Incoloy 800 and Hastelloy X were neutron irradiated at 500 to 7000C. It was found that of the three alloys investigated, Inconel 625 offers the greatest swelling resistance. The superior swelling resistance of Inconel 625 relative to that of Hastelloy-X is probably related to differences in the concentrations of the minor rather than major alloy constituents, and can involve (a) enhanced recombination of defects in the Inconel 625 and (b) preferential attraction of vacancies to incoherent precipitates.
