Description

A reliable method has been developed for the synthesis of nanohybrids with CdS nanoparticles decorating the surface of the interlayer structured CoAl-layered double hydroxides (CoAl/CdS-LDHs), which was implemented by combining methods of hydrothermal, anion-exchange, and gas-liquid sulfide reaction. The samples were characterized by various techniques, including X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis spectrometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analyses. The present work presents an efficient route for decorating CoAl-LDHs with CdS nanoparticles; in this way, the photocatalytic activity of CoAl-LDHs under irradiation of visible light can be effectively adjusted. The as-developed strategy may open up a promising avenue for designing and functionalizing layered double hydroxides (LDHs) materials with improved photocatalytic activity.
