Oxidation of inorganic sulfur compounds : chemical and enzymatic reactions
Description
A study was conducted to obtain a better understanding of the mechanism of inorganic sulfur oxidation by microorganisms, particularly thiobacilli. Microbial oxidation of inorganic sulfur is governed by chemical and enzymatic reactions. The proposed oxidation pathway was described. The oxidation of different inorganic sulfur compounds was dissected and analyzed by the use of inhibitors for specific enzymes and catalyzed reactions. The simplest situation was for the oxidation of sulfide and sulfur. 44 refs., 16 figs
