Optimization of Siwabessy multi purpose reactor spent nuclear fuel cooling in interim storage pool

A study on optimization of spent fuel cooling systems in the wet type interim storage pool has been done. This study was conducted based on the technique specifications data and the data which obtained from field, including burn-up of 72 and 56 %, fuel loading of 42 and 24 element per-year. This research is intend to obtain the value of the total heat load, the increase pool water temperature and the cooling system operating time on each condition. The calculation result is obtained concluded as follow: burn-up of fuel affects the amount of cooling load received by water storage ponds, on the condition of the cooling system is functioning and the VAC does not work, pool water temperature increase is smaller because some heat is picked up by the room air through convection and radiation. While on the condition of cooling system and VAC does not work, all the heat of the spent fuel to raise of temperature the pool water. It is hope that the result of this research can be used as a reference of spent fuel interim storage pool operation at the normal and abnormal conditions. (author)
