The method comparison of AAS and NAA for analysis of major and minor elements in mineral zircon sample from Kalimantan

Description

The comparison of atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and neutron activation analysis (NAA) of the major and minor elements in mineral zircon sample from Kalimantan has been carried out. The validation of AAS and NAA method were done by analysis of Cr, Fe, Al, Si, and Zr elements in certified reference materials (CRM) zircon sands that produced by PTAPB-BATAN Yogyakarta in 2009. Based on the performing statistic calculation using CRM zircon sands, the accuracy and precision parameters of AAS and NAA method that obtained were in the ring of permissible criteria's: 90 - 110% and < 5% respectively. The average concentration of Cr, Fe, Al, Si, and Zr elements in zircon samples using AAS method were 0.123 ± 0.004%, 3.522 ± 0.119%, 0.345 ± 0.002%, 11.788 ± 1.211% and 38.161 ± 1.022% respectively. While the results of Cr, Fe, Al, Si, and Zr obtained using NAA method were 0.110 ± 0.007%, 3.764 ± 0.320%, 0.549 ± 0.006%, and 38.986 ± 0.330%, respectively. The t test result to Cr, Fe, and Zr at level of significant 5% were < tt(5%) that shown there were no significant different of the mean concentration, while for Al showed significant difference whether at level of significant 5%. The F test result for both methods of Cr and Zr at level of significant 5% showed no different accuracy, while F test of Fe at level of significant 5% showed the different accuracy. (author)
