Description
Multifragmentation processes in the 30 MeV/u 129Xe + natCu and 129Xe + 197Au reactions were studied with a low threshold, high-granularity 4π detection system. Fragment velocity distributions have been measured at forward angles as a function of the total charged particle multiplicity. While a two-source pattern is observed for the peripheral collisions, no evidence of a dinuclear emission pattern is found for the most central collisions. Kinematical observables, such as fragment relative velocity, relative angle and reduced velocity correlation functions indicate a fast timescale of the multifragmentation process in these reactions.
