Maximum A Posteriori restoration applied to nuclear medicine images

Description

Image restoration filters typically have gains which approach zero at high spatial frequencies. However, through proper assumptions, the high frequency gain of the Maximum A Posteriori restoration filter can be set to one. This filter will then essentially preserve the uncorrelated appearance of the Poisson noise in nuclear medicine images, while increasing image contrast by restoring the low-frequency content of the image. Since the Poisson noise can be used to judge the data's statistical reliability, preserving it may aid the image interpreter
