A survey is given on the development of isotope hydrology techniques over the last 25 years. The involvement of the IAEA's Technical Co-operation programmes in such fields as tracer techniques, tracking rainfall, Carbon-14 dating of water, waste disposal and the development of alternative energy sources is discussed
