A real-time personal neutron dosemeter based on PIPS diodes and a double layer neutron converter

  • 1. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece)

Description

A real time personal neutron dosemeter was developed on the basis of a PIPS diode with a CR-39-6LiF converter. The detected particles are protons from neutron scattering on the CR-39 converter and alpha particles as well as tritons from the 6LiF(n,α)3H reaction. Background and γ ray contributions were tested using a second equivalent PIPS diode without converter. The dosemeter characteristics were studied during irradiations in monoenergetic neutron beams at energies from 73 keV up to 14 MeV. The principal properties of the device such as the energy and angular response as well as the linearity were investigated. (author)
