  • 1. Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., Taejon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

APR1400 is an evolutionary advanced light water reactor. It is based on the experience and technology of Korean Standard Nuclear Power - a 1000MWe PWR. The development project for APR1400 was launched as a national program in 1992, aiming for enhanced safety and economic to meet energy demand in the 21st century. Now the third stage of APR1400 is in progression with the goals of design optimization and licensing of APR1400 standard design. There has been in-depth discussion about licensing of APR1400 is in due process. In this paper, some of design characteristics, and safety and economic evaluation of APR1400 is presented. In the 5th national electricity supply plan, the construction of Shin-Kori NPP 3 and 4, which utilize APR1400 design, was included. According to the national plan, Shin-Kori NPP 3 will be in commercial operation in 2010, and it will be the first advanced PWR plant in the world, which reflects the most current technology
