The IRSN has assessed the approaches implemented by operators to perform 'post Fukushima' additional safety assessments of French nuclear installations

Description

After having briefly recalled the context created by the Fukushima accident, and the specifications defined for additional safety assessments of the French nuclear installations, this report from the French Nuclear Safety and Radioprotection Institute (IRSN) indicates how the IRSN considers some items present within these specifications: installation condition, margin assessment and behaviour of installations beyond the adopted hazard or risk sizing (some flooding risks are specified, associated with specific location of French power plants), taking the industrial environment into account (use of hazardous materials in neighbouring installations, vicinity of communication routes), and management of severe accidents
