Bone densitometry: a review (bone mineral density, absorptiometry)

Description

The authors discuss current capabilities of noninvasive bone densitometry techniques (radiogrammetry, photodensitometry, absorptiometry, tomodensitometry…). They describe the related indications and limits of each technique. They have provided an important first step towards ameliorating the diagnostic and the monitoring of the efficacy of treatment or the natural course of bone diseases. The authors propose the use of bone densitometry in several clinical applications in veterinary medicine

Les auteurs étudient les différentes techniques de mesure non-invasives de la densité osseuse (radiogrammétrie, photodensitométrie, absorptiométrie monophotonique, absorptiométrie biphotonique, tomodensitométrie…). Ils décrivent chaque technique, leurs indications et leurs limites en médecine humaine. Ces techniques jouent un rôle très important dans le diagnostic et le suivi des affections osseuses. Les auteurs étudient les applications potentielles ainsi que les adaptations à apporter pour développer ces techniques en médecine vétérinaire
