Probabilistic safety assessment as a standpoint for decision-making

It has been recognised that probabilistic safety assessment could be increasingly used in decision-making on questions about the nuclear power plants safety. Probabilistic safety assessment does not replace the defence-in-depth principle but supports it. Eventually, there could exist a rule or regulation in which probabilistic safety assessment would be the dominant basis for decision-making, while there could exist other case in which the defence-in-depth principles would remain dominant.
