Influence of residual austenite on recrystallization during quenched steel heating

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Fiziki Metallov

Description

Investigation of microstructure and magnetization of the 38KhN3MF steel has been performed during its rapid heating up to 800-900 degC from different initial states (5-6% and 25-27% of residual austenite) in order to reveal the effect of residual austenite on structural inheritance. A relation between structural inheritance during heating of preliminary quenched steels with the presence of residual austenite has been found out. Thus, orienting action of residual austenite is considered as a mechanism of structural inheritance. This mechanism acts in a definite interval of heating rates
