N2841-UB3 - A QSO with unusually strong optical Fe II emission

Description
The QSO N2841-UB3 is found to have one of the strongest optical Fe II luminosities yet observed. UB3 is compared to known Fe II strong objects, and also possible correlations between Fe II strength and other observables are considered. A previous suggestion that Fe II strong objects are among the most FIR luminous AGN is confirmed. UB3 also confirms the tendency for Fe II strong objects to have relatively narrow H-beta and weak forbidden O III 5007-A emission. The possibility that UB3 may have unusually weak or absent UV Fe II features is considered. If confirmed, this would suggest that the optical Fe II features arise in a very dense region in which UV lines are suppressed by radiative transfer effects. 34 refs
