Properties of the 18Kh2N4VA steel smelted on pellet and commonly used burden

  • 1. Tsentral'nyj Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Chernoj Metallurgii, Moscow (USSR)

Description

Technological and mechanical characteristics were studied of the 18Kh2N4VA steel melted using a virgin materials charge (1-prereduced pellets) and normed charges (11 -carbon scrap, 3 - rolling mill wastes) in a 10 t electric furnace at the ''Sibehlektrostal''' works. Steel 1, when compared with normal-practice steels 2 and 3, has significantly reduced impurity concentrations (tin reduced 10 times, antinomy, arsenic and copper - from 3 to 5 times), it exhibits improved hot formability (hot ductility characteristics improved by a factor between 1.2 and 1.5) and shows higher toughness and ductility values in various structural conditions at identical strength; it is less sensitive to stress concentrators and has lesser tendency to reversible temper brittleness
