Open channel plenum model hydraulic development test: flared inlet lines

Description

The test results are presented of the hydraulic studies on the SPF open channel Inlet Plenum Model with flared inlet lines. An evaluation was made of the effectiveness of 4 and 5-vane diffusers in 2 x 3 straight flared inlets, 5-vane diffusers in 2 x 3 curved flared inlets and 5-vane diffusers in 2 x 4 straight flared inlets. The 5-vane diffusers in 2 x 3 straight flared inlets provided the flattest pressure profiles at the grid plate and were recommended for incorporation into the plenum design. (U.S.)
