The impact of privatization of utilities and open energy markets on nuclear power plant operation

  • 1. Department of Nuclear Energy, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), PO Box 100, A-1400 Vienna (Austria)

Description

Electricity markets are experiencing some form of privatization or competition under deregulated environment in many countries that have operating nuclear power plants (NPPs). These changes are occurring at accelerating rates in many Members States of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). A number of these Members States have requested that the IAEA assemble information to assist the management of operating organizations and NPPs to succeed in this rapidly changing business environment. This 'lessons learned' information provides generating company managers with specific strategies and techniques for NPP operation to consider in order to properly cope with this new environment. This paper describes the results of this IAEA tasks to date and also explains who this work relates to the work of the OECD/NEA. (authors)
