Ballistic beam focusing by means of ion charge-exchange in conical magnetic field

Description
The utilization of systems with oscillationg elecrtons is one of the effective ways of receiving powerful ion currents. They permit to receive beams with current density of 1-10 kA/cm2 and ion energy of one MeV. Such beams can be used for plasma heating in long solenoid systems. Their application for thermonucleaar fusion devices purposes is only possible in the case of considerable current density increase. As ion currents prepared by this method are accelerated from the very start in a rather strong magnetic field their compression is limited by values of maximum achievable magnetic fields, This limitation can be weakened using ion recharging in neutral atoms with their following ballastic focusing. Conditions for the maximum compression of neutral current appearing in the course of ion beam recharging at the target in a conic magnetic field are considered. Corresponding parameters of the magnetic system are given. The effect ogf initial angular, density and thickness of recharging target on current compression is studied
