An application of a reliability analysis to the emergency sea water cooling system of the nuclear ship Savannah
Description
The reliability of the emergency sea water cooling system of the Nuclear Ship Savannah was quantitatively analysed by fault tree analysis. The failure data of the components were deduced from the data presented in Report WASH-1400, the Reactor Safety Study. The distribution of the system failure probability was calculated by SAMPLE code, in which the Monte Carlo method is used. The failure probability of this system was obtained as 9.5 x 10-2 (median value). It could be reduced to 3.0 x 10-2 (median value) by recommended design change. (author)
