Gamma ray shielding properties of natural mineral celadonite

  • 1. Department of Physics, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (India)

Description

In the present study, Celadonite a new radiation shielding material have been introduced. The linear attenuation coefficients (μ) of Celadonite and concrete have been measured using a gamma spectrometer consists NaI(Tl) scintillation detector and 8K MCA card. Samples were irradiated by gamma ray sources 57Co, 137Cs and 60Co. Mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ) and half value layer have also been determined. The values of (μ) and (μ/ρ) of Celadonite has been found greater than concrete. It is also clearly observed that the Celadonite has lower HVL values. Results show that Celadonite a new promising material for gamma shielding. (author)
