Direct X-ray study of hydrogen-induced phase transformations in stainless steels

  • 1. Helsinki University of Technology (Finland)
  • 2. Technical Research Centre of Finland, Espoo

Description

X-ray diffraction studies were carried out on thin foils of AISI 304 stainless steel utilizing an electrolytic cell which permits X-ray diffraction measurements simultaneously with hydrogen insertion. A metastable hexagonal phase, which was preceded by hydrogen clustering, was found to form in the anisotropic γ phase
