Description

The effect of the external magnetic field along various symmetry axes on the structural phase transitions of the Yahn-Teller nature (the quadrupole ordering) in the YbPO4 and YBVO4 crystals with the zirconium structure is theoretically studied. It is shown that the deformation susceptibility χγ increases with the field growth, so that in the sufficiently strong field in the studied crystals there appears the lattice rhombic deformation along the axis [100]-stimulated Jahn-Teller transition of the γ-symmetry. The phase diagrams and anomalies of the magnetic and magnetoelastic properties of the YbPO4 and YBVO4 crystals near the stimulated phase transitions. The effect of various pair interactions thereupon is studied and the possibility of the experimental observations of the forecasted effects is analyzed
