Considerations on the low-dose effects of ionizing radiation

Description
From the point of view of radiation protection, two dose-response models have been widely accepted: a linear relationship of doses and risks for stochastic biological effects (linear - no-threshold), while for deterministic effects, a relationship with threshold dose. According to epidemiology, low-dose is defined as doses between 200 mSv effective dose and 110 mGy/hour dose rate. These values have been obtained from statistical evaluation of malignant tumour diseases of radiation exposed populations. The evaluation of the two models to discussed in detail. The relation between radon in residential buildings and tumour diseases is also discussed. (R.P.)
