The climate saboteurs

Written by a journalist, this book highlights the role of multinational companies and banks have in climate change: 90 multinational groups are at the origin of two thirds of greenhouse gas emissions. These companies notably belong to the oil sector, the coal sector, the tire sector, and so on. The author shows that these companies, whatever they say about their commitment for the environment, are polluters. He notably focuses on Total, the French oil company, with its activities in shale gas, its lobbying activities, its presence everywhere in the world, its activities in oil sands, and its projects in Arctic. He addresses the issue of coal which destroys the forest, for which the illusion of a clean coal is often stated. He also focuses on Michelin, the tire manufacturer, and then denounces how banks deny their support to pollution, how huge amounts of money are spent on lobbying activities in Brussels. He criticizes Bill Gates' posture and speech by questioning where the money comes from, by highlighting his contradictions. The author proposes a critical overview of proposed and wrong solutions: business opportunities based on climate commitments, nuclear energy, CO₂ capturing, and delirium of geo-engineering.
