Differentiation between various cystic adenomas of the pancreas on computerized tomography

Of the 144 tumours of the pancreas examined here eleven were found to be cystadenomas or cystadenocarcinomas. For all these cases, a retrospective analysis was carried out of the findings from medical imaging procedures, in which particular account was taken of those from computerized tomography. The following criteria were chosen from among a large range of distinguishing features described in the literature, as these appeared to be particularly relevant and valuable to the diagnosis: 1) Number of cysts; 2) size of cysts; 3) formation of septate cysts; 4) appearance of tumour margins; relation between solid and cystic portions in the total tumour tissue; 5) occurrence of a central scar.
